Members of the Yonkers Police Department and the city’s Public Safety Dispatchers began an investigation on Aug. 4 after two mattresses were found in a vacant lot on Oak Street.

Surveillance video captured a man - later identified as Yonkers resident Michal Davon Roman - dropping the mattresses before leaving the area.

Police said that 10 days later, the 26-year-old Roman was identified and arrested, when he was found in possession of illegal drugs.

Roman has been charged with possession of narcotics and illegal dumping. He also faces potential fines of up to $15,000 when he is due in court. In addition, the Yonkers Police Department impounded his vehicle that was used to facilitate the illegal dumping of the mattresses.

Police officials noted that Yonkers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone who reports a case of illegal dumping that leads to a conviction. Tips can be called to (914) 377-3867 or to the Yonkers Police Department by calling (914) 377-7900.
